Virtual training refers to a method of providing instruction through a virtual or simulated environment where the learner and instructor are not in the same locations. Virtual training can be done synchronously (where the learner and teacher are both present during instruction) or asynchronously (where the learner can access the material at any time).
While virtual training and virtual training environments are designed to simulate a traditional learning experience in the classroom they can also be designed so that the learner can use parts of them as required without having to go from beginning to end. It is important, however, for some training methods that virtual environments provide interactivity so that participants can take part in discussions and practice skills that they have learned. The main benefit of providing training in this way is that it is available remotely and makes it accessible to learners without having to engage in travel or interrupt their normal work and family life.
