As an AFL physio, it’s your job to ensure that players receive the best possible treatment for their injuries. You work to prevent injuries by providing players with proper training, stretching, and other techniques to reduce risks. If players are injured during a game or practice, it’s your responsibility to diagnose the injury and create a treatment plan to help the player recover as quickly and effectively as possible.
This job can be challenging and demanding, but it is also incredibly rewarding. Working with injured players and seeing them recover and return to the game is a great feeling. However, you must always bear in mind the importance of making sure that they don’t return to the game before they are fully healed.
Being an AFL physio requires a range of skills, from communication to manual dexterity, to a thorough knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology. You must be able to work within a team of medical professionals alongside coaches and managers.
You will often be required to work long hours, including evenings and weekends, and you will need to be available to travel with the team. You must also stay up to date with the latest treatments, from manual therapies to more advanced techniques such as ultrasound and laser therapy.
AFL physio is a demanding job that requires determination, expertise, and compassion. But for those who are dedicated to helping athletes achieve their full potential, it can also be an incredibly rewarding career.
