If you use UPS to do a significant amount of shipping you can save yourself a lot of money simply by doing a UPS shipping audit. It simply means checking invoices you have received to determine if the service you have been billed for is what was provided and whether charges are correct.
Some examples of common errors include:
• Late package refunds – where you are entitled to UPS credits when a package is delivered late
• Duplicate Charges – errors where the service provided is charged more than once on different invoices
• Unshipped items – where you are charged for a label you created but did not use
• Promotions and Discounts – the conditions for some discount and promotions may mean you can claim money you did not know about
Manually going through every invoice is almost impossible but there are auditing firms and software that do the task for you. Not doing a thorough audit is like throwing money away on your shipping.
