Bohemian (or boho) style refers to an eclectic approach to decoration that emphasizes a carefree and relaxed approach and mixes different styles and elements together. It is associated with people that are travellers, actors and writers that lead unconventional lives. This is reflected in the way they combine different styles, objects and colors from all over the world in a creative mix, without consideration for traditional rules or approaches.
Bohemian style furniture generally cannot be found in a store – rather it comes from various pieces that have been collected over time from a range of different sources including second-hand stores, vintage items or furniture that has been reclaimed or re-purposed. Plush chairs and couches are examples of boho furniture as well as floor pillows and various other relaxed pieces such as lounges or daybeds. Straight-backed and minimalist furniture is definitely not a part of this approach – rather the aim is to be comfortable and welcoming.
