A social media advisor is a person that manages a company’s social media presence; they essentially become their eyes, ears, and voice in online social media networks. Their purpose is to raise a company’s profile and brand awareness, engage users of the company’s products, increase traffic to their website, and ultimately provide a measurable return on investment. All of this must be achieved while also protecting and preserving a company’s reputation.
An effective social media consultant must be able to demonstrate that they are successful on their own social media channels, understand the company’s products and market, and have connections with other social media participants, such as influencers. They should also be able to provide metrics to prove the return on investment of any social media marketing campaigns that they undertake (such as increase follower counts, higher engagement, or improved conversions).
