Premarital classes are a type of counselling that is undertaken before a couple get married. These classes are intended to help couples understand what will be required of them in the marital relationship, their expectations of marriage and to help them plan for some of the challenges they may need to overcome in their married lives.
The goals of premarital counselling are as follows:
• To help build a solid foundation for the marriage in which respect for each other is emphasized.
• To encourage couples to communicate openly at the start of, and throughout, their relationship about topics that can impact married life such as sex, finance and whether they wish to have children.
• It can help address possible areas of concern in the relationship such as potential areas of conflict to determine whether the participants are suited to each other.
