Communication platforms for business are software applications that have been specifically designed to enable employees to use real-time methods for communication when performing their jobs. These methods are implemented on their computers and include instant text messaging, video and voice messaging, one step file transfers and screen sharing among others. The purpose of this is to enable collaboration between employees no matter where they are located to enhance their interactions both with other employees and customers. They can also be used to implement process and workflows and to enhance teamwork.
There are a range of stand-alone applications that enable these functions as well as cloud based offerings from various providers that are referred to as Communication Platforms as a Service (CPaaS) and are available on a subscription (or pay-as-you-go) basis. All of these systems operate through a network and, in most cases, require the internet so that they are available remotely to wherever employees are located.
