George Friedman is one of the most influential political commentators in the world. A former intelligence analyst, he is now the founder and CEO of Geopolitical Futures, a leading online publication that provides analysis of global events.
What should I know about this?
George Friedman was born on November 1, 1964, in Budapest. His family fled Hungary when he was 9 years old, following the rise of communism under Soviet rule. Though they initially lived in Israel for five years before emigrating to the United States, they later relocated to Texas so that Friedman could receive an education there. He studied international relations at the University of Texas at Austin, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1981.
From early on, Friedman was inspired by political science and international relations. His interest in geopolitical issues began to develop while he was still in high school, as he grew increasingly interested in the Middle East’s turbulent history and culture. After graduating college, he took a position teaching political science at Austin College before leaving academia to become an advisor on foreign policy matters for former President Ronald Reagan.
