There’s a saying that goes, “Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” It means that when people have too much power, they sometimes lose sight of what is right and wrong. We see examples of this in history, in the news, and even in our everyday lives.
Sometimes people in positions of power become so wrapped up in their authority that they forget the consequences of their actions. They start to feel invincible and believe they can do no wrong. This is where power blinds them.
It’s important to remember that everyone makes mistakes, even those in positions of power. But when they allow their power to cloud their judgement, the consequences can be severe. They might make choices that hurt others, or even put people’s lives in danger.
We’ve seen the effects of power blindness in political leaders, business executives, and even school bullies. When they feel untouchable, they might bully or belittle those they see as weaker than themselves. They might take advantage of their position to gain more power or control.
It’s up to all of us to recognize when power is being abused and speak out. We can also work to prevent power blindness by reminding those in power to remain accountable and transparent. Let’s all do our part to ensure that power is used responsibly and not blind us to the consequences of our actions.
