Reclaimed wood is one of the most beautiful materials for building and decorative uses, and barns are the source of a good part of that. As barns are taken down and replaced with newer wood, some of that older wood is sold to home supply stores for use by builders. This wood is then used for outside storage buildings as well as providing a rustic feel to interiors.
However, it is important to make sure that you thoroughly inspect any barn wood for sale, especially if you are using it for anything outside. The wood may be too brittle, be hiding insects and mold, or maybe hiding nails; careful inspection of the wood is necessary in order to avoid any of those problems. However, that inspection is well worth it; by inspecting the wood for problems you can then use the wood to give a great retro feel to your home or structures.
