If you are well organized, have an eye for detail and enjoy taking photographs, a career in product photography may be ideal. You’ll typically need a bachelor’s degree and a background in photography to pursue a career in this field. Unlike some other photography jobs, photographing products is more structured and less creative; often the emphasis is on the correct angles, lighting and presentation. You’ll typically spend much of your working day in an office or studio, rather than on photo shoots in exotic locations. It can be easier to get a job in this field than in other areas of photography, and it’s a career that’s always in demand. It’s possible to work on a freelance basis although you’ll need a good camera, tripod, lenses, filters and other accessories. The average salary for someone employed in the field is around $35,000.
