The gun control debate is one that has been ongoing for many years. It never seems to go away, and it always makes the news when there is a gun-related tragedy. Gun violence in Colorado has increased by over 100% since 1999; this statistic should be alarming to gun owners.
The gun control laws are not working as intended, so what can we do? This blog will explore 3 main points about gun control in Colorado and how it could be changed to make our state safer.
The first main point is gun control is not working in Colorado.
The gun laws are doing nothing to actually stop gun violence from happening, they simply make gun owners feel like something has been done about the situation when it clearly hasn’t.
In fact, all gun control does is restrict law-abiding citizens while giving criminals a one-up on everyone else; if we just keep this point in mind we can hopefully come up with better solutions than what our current gun policies offer us today.
The next main point that needs addressing is people who abuse their access to firearms should be held accountable for their actions and punished accordingly.
We need more accountability on those who misuse guns instead of punishing everyone under the same umbrella because some individuals don’t follow the rules.
Last but not least, gun control Colorado should be about keeping guns out of the hands of those who want to do harm.
This can be done by increasing regulation on gun sales and implementing a waiting period for gun purchases as well.
We need to make sure that we are doing everything in our power to keep people safe from senseless acts of violence and that means taking a closer look at our gun laws and how they could be improved.
